Lifespan Religious Education
Youth Programming (Middle School and High School)
As the Director of Lifespan Religious Education at BAUUC, I have more than once been asked, “Why does a church that doesn’t have a creed need religious education?” The most succinct response I’ve found to that question is Rev. Rebecca Parker’s statement that, “For Unitarian Universalists, learning is the fundamental spiritual practice.” We learn in order to grow, to expand, to deepen. We learn in order to make better decisions about what we believe and how we will live.
Religious Education is the process by which we all learn together, from each other, how to build the Beloved UU Community. It's where we teach what we know and learn what others in our faith community know. It's where we transform ourselves into a whole that's greater than the individual diversities that make up its parts. It's how we become Unitarian Universalists. This is a central responsibility of our church - to teach, to lead, to learn.
