In June 2006, the UUA formally recognized BAUUC as a Welcoming Congregation (of BGLT persons) based on the history of our Welcoming Congregation Program (WCP) and the unanimous vote of our congregation to apply for recognition. Led by BAUUC’s One Voice – Straight and Gay Together Social Justice Committee, the Welcoming Congregation Program is a completely volunteer program for congregations to become more inclusive towards bisexual, gay, lesbian, and transgender people.
The One Voice Committee meets monthly. Meetings are held on the second Thursday of each month from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at BAUUC.
For more information, contact the committee chair Rhonda Boone.
The One Voice Committee has a three-fold mission in assisting the BAUUC congregation in “Living the Welcoming Congregation” – these are, Education, Advocacy, and Community Outreach. In order to accomplish this mission, we:
Join us, either as an active member of the One Voice Committee – or as a Friend of One Voice whom we can include in relevant communications and activities offered by the group, including BGLT-themed movie nights, social fun and frivolity, participation in the Houston Pride Parade, PFLAG, and Clear Area Same Sex Led Families (CLASS) Group to mention a few.
Don’t forget to stop by and join our face book group page for updates of current activities at “Friends of BAUUC One Voice – Straight and Gay Together.”
The PFLAG-Houston Chapter: Clear Lake meets on the 4th Sunday of every month from 2 to 4 pm in the Bay Area Unitarian Universalist Church Fellowship Hall.
Parents and Friends and Families of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) is a support group of parents, families and friends striving to understand and/or wanting to better support their loved ones who are lesbian and gay, transgender or bisexual with the mission to:
Support Families - working to keep families in loving relationships by helping them understand and affirm their gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgendered family members.
Educate the Public - seeking to dispel the myths and misinformation by working with educators, community and religious groups, the media, and the general public.
Advocate for Equality - calling for equal human and civil rights.
PFLAG provides opportunities for dialog about sexual orientation and gender identity, and acts to create a society that is respectful of human diversity. Visit the PFLAG National website and PFLAG Houston website
We are a small group of same-sex led families and we are looking to expand. Our goal is to support and socialize with other families like ours on a regular basis. We hope to plan many family oriented activities throughout the year. All are welcome, even BGLT’s who are interested in becoming parents.
