What Newcomers Should Know

What Newcomers Should Know

Visitors are often unsure of what to expect when they attend their first service at BAUUC. This is our usual Sunday morning schedule:
9:30-10:30   Service 1
9:30-10:30   Religious Education for children
10:35-11:25   Adult Discussion
11:30-12:30   Service 2
11:30-12:30   Religious Education for children

The service typically includes readings, hymns, and a sermon in the Unitarian Universalist tradition. Occasionally we’ll have something a bit different, a music service, for example. Children usually sit with their parents from the beginning of the service up to the children's story and then are "sung on their way" to their activities. The sanctuary can look quite full at the beginning of the service, but seats free up after the children go to their classes. Music is provided by our choir and our musically inclined members and friends. Visitors are often struck by the quality of our “local” talent. We always have an “after-the-service” lunch, either here provided by the church or at a local restaurant. Check the Sunday order of service for the location each week. All are welcome. Dress tends towards business casual although you will see everything from blue jeans to dresses. After the service we often chat over coffee. Please spend some time with us so that we might have the chance to get to know one another!
